Ladislav Hornan

Ladislav Hornan - Honorary President

Born in Prague, Ladislav came to London in 1968 where he completed his education and professional qualifications. He has specialised in insolvency and corporate recovery since joining UHY Hacker Young in 1974. Elected Managing Partner in 1995, he continues to hold this post; he also held the position of Chairman of UHY International twice, and continues to serve as a Board Director since 1995.

As an Insolvency Practitioner, Ladislav has UK as well as international experience in the assessment of the financial position and viability of businesses in difficulties, of monitoring business progress following the implementation of recovery programmes and of acting as a formal insolvency Office Holder of failed businesses. Additionally, he has experience in dealing with complex fraud cases assisting UK government agencies (SFO and HMRC).

As Managing Partner for nearly 20 years, Ladislav has gained valuable experience in all aspects of professional services including audit and practice management, regulatory issues and risk management.

Over the years Ladislav has also pursued interests of a charitable nature, and in 2005 he was awarded ‘Gratias Agit’ by the Czech government for promoting the good name of the Czech Republic abroad through his numerous activities, for example, many years of involvement with the English College in Prague.

2008 to date: Chairman of the Czech British Chamber of Commerce

1989 to date: Treasurer (1989) then Chairman (1993) of the British Czech & Slovak Association, and now President (1998 to 2014), and now Vice-President (UK Registered Charity)

2010-2013: elected to The Council of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (500,000 members and students worldwide)

1994-2009: Governor of the English College in Prague (Founded by UK Registered Charity); Vice-Chairman of the Governors in 1999 

1995: Freeman of the City of London and a Member of the Worshipful Company of Upholders (Livery Company)

/Tereza Urbankova

Tereza Urbankova - Communications

Tereza is a PR, communications and marketing professional with over 18 years of experience and proven success in industries such as hospitality, retail, IT, defence, broadcast, logistics and engineering. At the start of her career, Tereza also worked at the Diplomatic Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Over the years, Tereza has delivered several award-winning communications programmes and successful projects in the areas of internal/external communications, media relations, social media management, brand management, online marketing, crisis communications, acquisitions, culture change, employee engagement, and others.

After having lived and worked in the UK for 12 years, Tereza relocated to Germany in 2018 and now works as Head of Global External Communication, Animal Health, for Boehringer Ingelheim.

In 2022, Tereza was elected a Board Member of the European Association of Communications Directors (EACD).

Originally a linguist, with a Master’s Degree in English and Spanish from the Masaryk University in Brno, she also contributes to the Czech & Slovak Leaders MagazineThrive Global and occasionally provides PR and communications consultancy services to organisations both in the UK and the Czech Republic.

David Major - Treasurer

David Major -  Interim Chairman & Treasurer

David was born in Slovakia but grew up in South-west England.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Management Studies and Politics from the University of Leicester. During his studies, he completed various internships in London and Shanghai in corporate finance and recruitment.

After graduating, he started studying towards his Charted Accountancy qualification, where he's worked on audit and accounts assignments for a wide range of clients in London and the East Midlands. In his current role at UHY Hacker Young in London, he primarily works on audit assignments for a variety of SMEs.

In his spare time, David enjoys watching football and ice hockey and has competed in several regional level powerlifting competitions.

Dennis Werian - Administration  

Dennis was born and raised in Eastern Germany. He has been working in the hospitality sector for over 20 years. He has held various operational roles within hotels, from Kitchen Porter to F&B Manager before his move to operational finance and regional and cluster financial management. 

 

Dennis is currently employed as the Hotel Asset Manager for Danubius and Ensana Hotels, operating over 40 properties and employing over 3,000 people within the CEE region, as well as the UK. Furthermore, he is responsible for two independent properties located in Israel. His role involves physical and financial asset management, as well as expansion and development of the two brands across the CEE region.


Dennis holds an AAT qualification and a Diploma in International Business from Dublin Business School and a Certificate in Hotel and Real Estate Development from Cornell University.

 

In his spare time he loves travelling, a good book or movie and has a very diverse and eclectic taste when it comes to music.
