The Czech Connection

An illustrated talk by Caroline Cannon-Brookes will explore a range of historic links between Britain and Bohemia and their varying impacts.

Venue: Czech Embassy cinema, 26 Kensington Palace Gardens, London, W8 4QY

Amongst the topics included will be John Wycliffe and Jan Hus; Baron Waldstein’s travels in Elizabethan England; Elizabeth Stuart, the Winter Queen; the English influence on 18th century Bohemian parks and gardens; and King Edward VII’s visits by train to Marienbad/ Mariánské Lázně.


Caroline Cannon-Brookes is an art historian, trained at the Courtauld Institute and a former lecturer in the University of Oxford, Department for Continuing Education. She has led many tours to the Czech Republic to which she is a regular visitor.

All proceeds raised go towards the care and conservation of Czech heritage.
